Fire engines dealing with a fire at the rear of a premises at Emmet Street in Birr.
THERE was major disruption in Birr earlier today (Monday) as the Fire Service dealt with a fire at a premises in Emmet Street in the town.
Traffic had to be diverted for a couple of hours as a number of fire engines were deployed to tackle the blaze, which occurred at the rear of a premises on Emmet Street.
Smoke billowed into the sky as the blaze took hold and a number of units of the fire service were quickly on the scene to deal with the incident.
Gardai diverted traffic away from Emmet Street while the fire was being tackled by the Fire Service units and that caused a lot of back up of traffic around the town.
Units of the Fire Service were still at the scene this afternoon and traffic had returned to Emmet Street but Gardai were still on duty controlling that.
It is not known yet what caused the blaze and there were no reports of any injuries.
