Birr Boxing Club is currently seeking a new premises in the town, either in an existing building or on a greenfield site.

John Carroll told a recent public meeting of Birr 20:20 that he and Adrian Haines are working hard at finding a new place for the thriving club.

He said the club has about 50 members and is very grateful to the owner of its current premises in Burke's Hill, where it's been located for the last five years. The club is for Junior Boxers only and its Chairperson is John Pardy.

“We are going to meet the District Engineer John Mitchell and Director of Services Ann Dillon in the near future to discuss possible sites,” commented Mr Carroll.

The meeting was told that local man Geoff Liffey is going to carry out an audit of what possible space is available around the town, whether it be buildings or land, to give sports clubs and community organisations, which are sorely in need of facilities, an idea of what is available out there. Chairperson of Birr 20:20 Denis Shine appealed to the general public that if they have a space to rent or they need a space “please contact us in Birr 20:20.”

Eimhin Shortt pointed out that carrying out an audit of “what's on, what's available for children, would be great for families.”

Mr Carroll said the Boxing Club could possibly share a future facility with a local club or clubs.
