Man convicted of stealing €1,100 worth of alcohol and groceries from supermarkets in Tullamore
A DEFENDANT was charged with stealing €1100 worth of alcohol and groceries from stores in Tullamore, during last week's sitting of Tullamore District Court.
Tomasz Stalis, Apartment 9 The Court, Dublin Street, Kildare was charged with stealing nine Bottles of Johnnie Walker Red Label worth €234 from Lidl, Church Road, Tullamore on the 24th of July, 2022.
He was also charged with the theft of five bottles of Bushmills, six bottles Of Johnny Walker, and groceries worth €427 from the Lidl store on Main Street, Tullamore, on the 23rd of July, 2022.
On the same date, when in Aldi, Cloncollig, Tullamore, Stalis stole nine Bottles Of Jameson, Malibu and Cognac and groceries worth €439.
Sgt Brendan Kearns told the court that Stalis had four previous convictions, including criminal damage and using a false instrument.
The defending Barrister David Nugent said Mr Stalis is currently in prison and his release date is March 25.
“Mr Stalis is a young man,” remarked Mr Nugent, “who got into trouble because of his difficulty with alcohol. He doesn't have any real recollection of these incidents of theft but he does accept he was there on the day. He has received a considerable amount of counselling help in prison and is doing well.”
Judge Andrew Cody commented that this was “a significant amount” of alcohol and groceries. He convicted and sentenced to three months imprisonment, suspending the sentence for two years (own bond of €100).
