The victorious team - Joe Hughes (Captain) , Kevin Sweeney , Sean Cassells , Luke Duffy
The Senior Debating Spanish Team at Coláiste Choilm in Tullamore travelled to Dublin on Tuesday, November 28 last, to compete in a competition held in St Benildus School, Stillorgan.
Many schools took part and this year Coláiste Choilm were debating against Chanel School , Dublin . The motion was “Debemos limitar la Inteligencia Artificial” ( Artificial Intelliegnce should be limited) with the Tullamore boys opposing the motion .
The debate started just after 6pm and the two teams battled it out until almost 8 pm, all the time conversing in Spanish.
When all the speakers had finished their arguments both teams had then to think on their feet and argue and defend questions made by the opposite team.
The Coláiste Choilm boys were amazing and all four never waivered or gave up the fight. The final decision by the judges was that Coláiste Choilm was the winning team which was very well deserved.
This is the second year in a row that these students have won their debate, last year while in 5th Year they had to compete against two other schools, Rosemount and St. Benildus and again they won. Speaking a foreign language is a huge bonus in all walks of life and it can open many doors both in Ireland and abroad.
Well done boys, a fabulous achievement and a tribute to all your hard work and effort.
