Court told that man in Midlands was so drunk he fell through garda station door

A court has heard how a man was so drunk he fell through the front door of the public office in Longford garda station while attempting to sign on as part of his bail conditions.

Grigorijus Sibika (53) Top Flat, Keane's Garage, Strokestown Road, Longford came before last week's district court sitting charged with being intoxicated in public contrary to section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1994.

Mr Sibika, who was represented by defence solicitor Frank Gearty, pleaded guilty to the offence which took place on September 7 last shortly after 9:30pm.

Mr Gearty said Mr Sibika had not intentionally set out to cause a disturbance at the garda station and was on “official business” at the time.

“He says he did have a small drink but unfortunately it reacted with medication and he is very sorry.

“It was most unfortunate, but he was on official business which he was required to do,” he said.

Judge Bernadette Owens fined Mr Sibika €100, giving him four months to pay.
