Highly intoxicated Offaly woman went to garda station for lift home accompanied by her young daughter

A woman who went into the Tullamore Garda station seeking a lift home was highly intoxicated.
The woman, who we are not naming to protect the identity of her daugher, has an address in Offaly. She had gone into the garda station on December 1, 2022 seeking a lift home. She was accompanied by her four-year-old daughter.
The woman had 12 previous convictions, including criminal damage and threatening and insulting behaviour. She had also previously been convicted for supplying drugs and the theft of €100.
Solicitor Donal Farrelly said the defendant was 43-year old woman with three children. One was autistic. He said she was very ashamed.
Judge Cody wondered where her four-year-old daughter was while she was drinking. He said she needs to reflect on the danger she is putting her children in.
He fined the woman €200.
Mr Farrelly had sought legal aid. Judge Cody replied that if she has that much money to spare on alcohol, maybe she would divert some of it to him. However, he granted legal aid.
