Man acted aggressively and was abusive at Tullamore Hospital
A MAN who was aggressive and abusive towards nurses and gardai at Tullamore Hospital came before the district court recently.
Giving evidence, Sergeant James O’Sullivan said that at 3.50am on May 7, last, Patrick Hayes,(23), of Castlekealy Lawns, Daingean, was highly intoxicated at Tullamore hospital He had been very abusive and acted aggressively.
Sgt O’Sulllivan said that on March 12, 2023 on William Street,Tullamore, Mr Hayes had been carrying a piece of glass and acting aggressively outside Supermac's. When gardai approached him he said ''what the f*** do you want and you are not going to f****** arrest me.'' He then ran away from Garda Bannon.
Solicitor Donal Farrelly said that on the night Mr Hayes was in the hospital he had been assaulted downtown. He had been taken to hospital quite concussed and was upset when he recovered. He suffers from ADHD and had not been diagnosed until he was 17. He also has a drink problem and is attending courses in Portlaoise.
Mr Farrelly handed a letter from the defendant’s mother to Judge Cody which he said set out some of the troubles she has had with him.
Having read the letter, Judge Cody said we can all agree with his mother that he needs to give up drink.
Mr Farrelly said Mr Hayes is getting counselling. He wants to go to England to get work and he is worried how a conviction would affect that. He asked if there was any way Judge Cody could see his way to leaving him without a conviction.
Judge Andrew Cody asked if he was working and was told he wasn’t.
Judge Cody put the case back to December 13 and told the defendant he needs to stay sober in the meantime and if he does he may be disposed to leaving him without a conviction.
