Met Eireann has issued a severe snow and ice warning for the majority of Ireland with more snow and freezing temperatures on the way.
Met Eireann has issued a Status Orange Snow and Ice warning for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Clare, Connacht, Longford, Louth, Meath, Westmeath. A second Status Orange Warning for Leinster has also been issued for Friday.
Met Eireann says Status Orange Weather Warning is given before expected weather conditions that could significantly impact people, property and activity in an area. People in the affected areas should prepare appropriately for the anticipated conditions.
The first Status Orange Snow and Ice Warning states that there will be further spells of sleet and snow today combined with strong east to northeast winds. This will bring significant accumulations of snow are expected in some areas along with icy conditions.

Status Yellow - Snow-Ice warning for Ireland Met Éireann Weather Warning Rain, sleet and snow will spread northwards across the country accompanied by strengthening winds. Accumulations of snow are expected in many areas along with icy conditions. Sleet and snow will likely transition to rain in southern areas for a time. Possible Impacts: ● Hazardous driving conditions ● Travel disruption ● Poor Visibility
Met Eireann is warning of very hazardous road conditions, travel disruption and poor visibility. The warning is valid from 11am today until midnight.
A separate Status Orange Snow and Ice warning for Leinster comes into place at midnight and remains in place until 10am on Friday. It warns that there will be spells of sleet and snow overnight combined with strong northerly winds. Significant accumulations of snow are expected in some areas by morning along with icy conditions.
A separate Status Yellow Snow and Ice Warning is also in place for Ireland. Met Eireann is warning that rain, sleet and snow will spread northwards across the country accompanied by strengthening winds. Accumulations of snow are expected in many areas along with icy conditions. This warning is already in place and remains in place until noon on Friday.
