JP McManus in the Limerick dressing room
EVERY GAA, camogie and ladies football club in Offaly are receiving an early season financial boost thanks to a remarkable €1 million donation by JP McManus.
The Limerick multi millionaire made the donation to every GAA County Board before Christmas, stipulating that it be divided among GAA, camogie and ladies football clubs. Every club in Offaly will receive €14,729 – treasurer Dervill Dolan told a meeting of the County Board on Tuesday evening that they had topped it up by an additional €1,583 after placing the €1 million on deposit for a few weeks.
The 41 GAA clubs in Offaly will receive a total of €603,896 with €220,937 going to camogie and €176,750 going to ladies football.
Mr Dolan and chairman Michael Duignan both thanked JP McManus for his very generous donation. Mr Duignan referred to his lifelong commitment to the GAA and predicted that it was not over yet. He stated that it was a particular boost to camogie and ladies football clubs who don’t get the same volume of funding as GAA.
Mr Duignan also urged clubs to spend it wisely, noting that there was all ways of spending it but suggesting that they use it for long term projects.
