Speculation rife the three day event will be staged near county Kildare town

SPECULATION is rife in Screggan regarding the location of next year's National Ploughing Championships.

Word on the ground is that the three-day-event will be hosted on a site near the town of Rathangan in county Kildare.

In recent years the Ploughing has been hosted by counties in the Midland region which are easy to access from all parts of the country.

The 700 acre site at Screggan, outside Tullamore, which is hosting this year's Ploughing, has come in for praise from exhibitors, competitors and visitors alike.

Road and rail links are superb with Iarnrod Eireann having provided extra train services to both Tullamore and Portarlington stations for the duration of the championships.

The site is also located near the N52 roadway and the M6 motorway as well as numerous side roads.

Traffic management by both the Gardai and National Ploughing Association has been excellent with no major delays having been reported.
