Rathangan site for Ploughing 2027 expected to be announced this evening

PLOUGHING chief Anna May McHugh doesn't expect the mammoth event will ever leave the Midlands.

She was speaking on Midlands 103 earlier today as speculation mounts as to where the 2027 Ploughing Championships will be staged.

It is expected that a site near Rathangan in county Kildare will be officially announced as the 2027 venue at 6pm on the grandstand in Screggan this evening.

It was first reported in the Leinster Leader several months ago that the Ploughing would be coming to Kildare.

Laois IFA's Pat Hennessy said the location of the 2027 Ploughing was the "worst kept secret".

He added that normally the location of the following year's Ploughing is a closely guarded secret until the official announcement at the end of the final day of the current event.

The Ploughing has been hosted at sites in the Midlands for the past number of years and looks likely to stay in the region judging by the comments of Anna May McHugh on Midlands Today.
