Engineers Ireland, the national representative body for the engineering profession in Ireland, is inviting visitors to marvel at a humanoid robot, discover how electricity is created, snap a thermal selfie, meet a robot dog, and explore a range of exciting technologies at next week’s National Ploughing Championships.

Taking place from 15 to 17 September in Screggan, the hands-on Engineers Ireland’s exhibition, at Block 4, Row 8, Stand 155, will be packed with activities designed to spark imaginations and inspire the next generation of problem solvers.

The exhibition, entitled ‘Engineering the Future’, will showcase how engineering is shaping modern life, from robotics and renewable energy to sustainable solutions, while highlighting the breadth of the engineering profession and the diverse career paths it offers.

Bionic Buddies

Play fetch with Phi-Do, the Engineers Ireland robot dog, and dance with Harvey, the humanoid robot! Programmed by the COMAND Technology Gateway at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Technological University of the Shannon, Harvey is equipped with advanced sensors and artificial intelligence. He can walk, dance, and even put on a martial arts display. This showcase demonstrates how robotics engineering is about enabling greater human-robot collaboration in everyday environments.
