ALERT: Security reminder for those attending National Ploughing Championships 2026

An important security reminder has been issued to those attending the National Ploughing Championships over the next few days in Screggan, just outside Tullamore.
A social media post from the organisers reminded everyone that security checks will be in place for the next three days.
“Just a quick reminder: Bag checks will be in place at the entrances to the National Ploughing Championships,” the post oulined.
Queues have been building at the entrance at the Screggan site since early this morning when the gates first opened.
Traffic is reported to be moving well with a large garda presence and many stewards on hand.
Extra train services have been provided by Irish Rail and a park and ride bus service is in operation to and from the site in Screggan with transfers available from Tullamore Train Station.
President Catherine Connolly will perform the official opening of the 95th National Ploughing Championships in Screggan at 12 noon today.
The official opening, performed for the first time by President Connolly, will take place at the Grandstand close to the headquarters on the NPA at the Screggan site.
