FINES totalling €1,500 along with two driving bans were imposed on an uninsured motorist who was caught speeding on the Dublin-Galway motorway.

Garda Declan Miley told Tullamore District Court that at 10.50am on January 27 last he detected Iulian Eusediu Costin (36), Curragh Hall Road, Tyrrellstown, Dublin 15, driving at 150 km/h on the M6 at Ardnaglew, Co Westmeath where the speed limit is 120 km/h.

Garda Miley said the man failed to produce insurance in Finglas.

The garda added that Mr Costin was linked to five insurance policies but they were all inactive.

Sergeant Richard Thornton said the accused had previous convictions for speeding and theft.

Judge Andrew Cody imposed one €750 fine with a two-year driving ban for driving without insurance and another €750 fine with a one-year disqualification for speeding.
