The Hare of Church Street - stunning new mural unveiled

The colourful new mural is a beautiful addition to Church Street

Roscrea Tidy Towns are delighted with the colourful new mural on Church Street, which is a co-operative effort between Tipperary County Council, the homeowner and Roscrea Tidy Towns.

The hare was chosen  as it was a sacred and mystical animal to the Celts; a symbol of abundance, prosperity and good fortune. Hares were believed to have connections to the otherworld and were treated with great respect and never eaten.

St. Melangell, an Irish Princess who became an Abbess in Wales, is the patron saint of hares and also has a parallel story to St. Bridget, in that she got a gift of land for her monastery from the local prince.

The mural was designed by the Waterford-based artist collective, Street Art Ink who work with over 50 international street artists. Pictured below is the final piece and a shot of the work in progress by PJ Wright.
