Hyland Breaks 2 Minute Barrier in Greystones

Ronan Hyland had a breakthrough performance in Greystones on Saturday, May 4, when he went faster than two minutes in the 800m. Ronan was competing in the Irish Milers Club annual meet in Greystones and was seeded to compete in the B heat. Ronan was in the lead pack from the start and fought all the way to the line. He was delighted with his new PB of 1.59:7, improving by two seconds over his previous best.  Ava O'Connor also ran an 800m PB. 15-year-old Ava was competing against senior athletes but this didn't seem to bother her as she raced with the lead pack and finished in a time of 2.11:7. Lydia Buckley and Sian Corrigan also raced over 800m and made good starts to their season with 2.30 and 2.31 respectively. Last on the track for Tullamore was Nadine Donegan. She raced well and was pushing all the way to the finish and was rewarded with a new PB of 4.38:1. Nadine has really put a huge effort in this year and has improved her PB by over five seconds.

Peter English 625

The annual “Peter English 625”, held on Tuesday, April 30, took on a different format this year, with nine consecutive races – each of one lap of the tarmac 625-metre track. The event proved hugely successful this year and provided a night of entertainment with athletes of all standards racing against their peers. Joe Wrafter, the club handicapper, has to be commended for dividing the competitors into the appropriate race group as per previous performances and race times. The large numbers racing was a fine tribute to Peter.

Chairman Adrian Curley welcomed Peter’s brother John and his nieces and nephew to the event. He also introduced the record holder Colin Walsh. Colin posted his record of 1:27:7 in 1998. The ladies record was set in 2017 by Claire Rafter with 1:43:3. The highlight of the night was watching the men's record broken by Aaron Mangan and James Dunne, and the ladies' recorded equalled by Ava O Connor. Congratulations to our winners and also to everyone who competed and supported the event. Photographs thanks to Adrian Martin.

Fallon Conlon competed in the Half Marathon in and she too had a pb with a time of 1:56. Joanne Kelly also ran the Half Marathon and had a great run in 2:03:03. Well done to you all.

Belfast Marathon

Well done to Rodge Larkin and Aidan Egan who both competed in the Belfast Marathon on the same day, Sunday, May 5. Unfortunately, due to an error, an extra 500m was added to the marathon course so the results are being adjusted to reflect the longer course, so a medal was truly deserved.
