WATCH: Belmont goal at the death enough to seal semi-final spot in Offaly Championship
The drama of the 2018 Offaly Hurling Championship continued over the weekend as Belmont pulled off late heroics to sink traditional kingpins Birr at the quarter-final stage.
It was nip and tuck all day between the pair but in the final moments, Belmont's Damien Egan popped up at the end of a passing move and rifled a thunderous effort to the back of the net in O'Connor Park. You can watch the last-ditch effort in the video at the top of this article.
That goal put the game beyond Birr with just seconds remaining, and from the resultant puck-out, the whistle sounded, putting the cap on a 1-14 to 0-15 win for Belmont.
Elsewhere, St. Rynagh's overcame Shinrone on a 0-17 to 0-14 scoreline, finalising the line-up for the semi-final stage, the draw for which was made over the weekend.
In the semi-finals, favourites Kilcormac-Killoughey will face St. Rynagh's while Belmont, buoyed by their heroics over Birr, will meet Coolderry.
