WATCH: Long-standing Midlands business burns to the ground during snow storm

McCormack's opened in 1966

McCormack's Topline hardware stored in Delvin, Co. Westmeath has burned to the ground this affternoon, Thursday, March 1.

The building is now a shell with exterior walls smoldering against the backdrop of the snow storm currently gripping the country.

Fire services responded to the scene shortly after 5.30am on Thursday morning, sparking an evacuation process in nearby buildings on the main street in the village.

The operation to put out the blaze, which took a number of hours, was complicated by the conditions which brought around 30cm of snow to the Midlands on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

The video above was published to the Barry's Pharmacy Facebook page as the fire raged at the business premises which has been a mainstay in Delvin since 1966.

The cause of the fire is still unknown but no injuries have been reported. Fire Services have now extinguished the fire.
