Record numbers attend first day of National Ploughing Championships in Tullamore

A record number of visitors attended the first day of the National Ploughing Championships outside Tullamore on Tuesday with 100,000 on site.

This is a major increase on the 77,000 that attended last year and if the trend continues, it will see this year's event eclipse all previous records in terms of attendance.

Despite the large crowds, traffic reportedly flowed well on all routes with a major traffic management operation in place.

While there was large volume on all routes, traffic continued to move as is shown on the video taken between Fivealley and Birr today as the visitors to the National Ploughing Championships headed for home. A large number of Gardai were on duty in Birr to ensure the traffic continued to move through the town.
