There was outrage in an Offaly village today as a popular snowman, affectionately known as Frosty, met a grisly end.
The popular pile of frozen water had lived in Rahan since this morning and he was quickly becoming a fixture, well at least until the temperature rose later in the week and he melted of natural causes.
However he met a premature and grisly end when he was set upon this afternoon by two individuals identified locally as Declan O'Hanlon and David Hayes. Frosty was decapitated and then, to add insult to injury, he was debodied.
Attempts to fix Frosty at the scene continue although one local said it was a bit too warm this afternoon and bits of the snowman were just melting away. Rescue attempts will continue after dark when it gets a lot colder.
