Banagher College student Ciaran Corcoran has been revealed as a Second Level National Finalist in the ESB Networks National Safety Challenge.

The national competition tasks students with inventing or formulating farm solutions to common problems that will make the farming industry safer.

Ciaran has developed a safety calf crate to improve safety for both the farmer and the calf. The calf crate can be used by farmers to tag or dose their animals securely.

It turns what is normally a two-man job with farmers managing the calves all by hand to an easy task that farmers can carry out safely on their own.

The second and third level winners of the ESB competition will be announced in the coming weeks.
