Former Offaly team mates clash in big FAI Cup womens' clash

Offaly girls making mark in soccer
IT was a very special day for an Offaly schoolboys soccer club when three of its former players clashed on opposing teams in a big FAI Cup clash.
Leah Stack lined out for Bohemiams in their 2-0 win over Athlone Town in the Womens U17 FAI Cup tie on Saturday. The Athlone Town side featured Tullamore sisters, Emma and Isabel Mooney.
The three very talented soccer players began their careers as young girls with Killeigh Schoolboys and Girls Soccer Club. Leah Stack and Emma Mooney have both achieved international recognition with Ireland, with Emma playing regularly for the very successful Athlone Town first team.
The girls come from strong sporting backgrounds. Leah is the daughter of Niall and Jenna Stack and her father is a former Tullamore senior footballer while he was the manager for the early years of their current golden era in the Offaly championship.
Emma and younger sister Isabel are the daughters of Leonard Mooney and Verona Smyth. Leonard was a prominent senior footballer with Shamrocks in the 1990s and 2000s and the two girls were keen swimmers before concentrating on soccer.
Their former club were thrilled to see them competing at a high level on Saturday, posting on Facebook: “We are incredibly proud to see Leah, Emma and Isabel continuing to represent themselves, their families and their clubs with distinction.”
