Offaly to agree to early fixture

AN early Saturday throw in is the likely fixture for Offaly's senior football Tailteann Cup quarter-final against Wexford.

The fixture has not been finalised yet by the CCC but it is almost certain to be 1pm in O'Connor Park this Saturday.

It is understood that Wexford have made a request for an early throw in and Offaly will be trying to facilitate them. A 1pm Saturday fixture won't suit all supporters but Offaly GAA will be hoping they turn out in big numbers as there is now a great chance of continued Tailteann Cup progress. There is a definite opportunity for Offaly to win it and they deserve support after the way they have turned their season around in recent weeks.

After a very poor opening part of the season, Offaly have given the second tier a real go, beating Clare and Down to make the quarter-finals.

Their win over Down may prove to be a season changing one as it was a bolt from the blue – Down missed their share of chances but Offaly played some great, attacking football in an encouraging win.

They will be favourites for the next game but it is a real banana skin. The other pairings are: Fermanagh v Sligo, Laois v Down and Antrim v Wicklow.
