THE pupils and teachers of St Joseph’s National School, Tullamore were in high spirits and gripped by ‘egg-citement’ last Thursday as they dressed up colourfully for their enjoyable Easter Bonnet Parade and Easter Egg Hunt.
In addition to the Easter fun and festivities, there was a celebratory element to the occasion as a presentation was made to mark St Joseph’s fabulous achievement in the Co-Operation is Cool competition with their singing project which has resulted in the production of a fund-raising CD.
Co-operation is Cool
The special class from St Joseph’s NS, Tullamore entered the Co-operation is Cool competition run by the Laois Education Centre.
Their project, The Arden Melody Makers Community Singing Project, was a long-term project they begun in September last year.
Each Thursday, the students from the Special Class walked to the Arden View Family Resource Centre to meet with the Afternoon Club, which caters for older citizens, to sing.
Accompanied by their teacher, helpers and visiting music teacher, Noel O’Farrell, the group chose a number of songs to learn.
After practising for several months, the group have recorded and produced a CD to showcase their best songs. The project took overall second prize, a great accolade.
The class was the only special class entered in the project and truly embodied the spirit of co-operation.
The Arden Melody Makers were so happy with their CD that they have decided to sell copies to raise money to support the Resource Centre.
CDs cost €5 and are available from the centre. All money goes to the Resource Centre.
