The success in a variety of events and disciplines continues unabated for the children from Killeigh Parish Community Games

Kileigh hit the ‘write’ note

The parish sent their representatives to Ferbane to compete in the county finals of the handwriting competition.

The girls were represented by Jennifer Hyland (1st) and Katie Hennessey (3rd). Molly Sheil (2nd) is unavailable. The boys were represented by Brian Walsh (1st) and Sean Flood (2nd)

Katie Hennessey and Sean Flood took home silver medals on the night. A great achievement and congratulations to the 4 children to went forward.

Indoor Athletics finishes

The indoor athletics has now finished in Geashill hall and the group will move outdoors to the GAA pitch in Ballinagar on April 10. All children from age 6 to 15 and living in the 5 villages of the parish are welcome to attend. The cost per child is €1.

The community games group are now in receipt of a set of hurdles which were funded by Jim Dolan and the Ballinagar Run Committee and the community games group. The committee of the parish community games would like to thank Jim and the Ballinagar Run Committee for their very kind donation which enabled the group to purchase the hurdles. Last year Cliona Owens from the parish represented Offaly at the nationals in the girls under 14 hurdles and reached the final to be placed 5th.

A great achievement by Cliona. Also at the nationals in athletics , Emma Darby reached the final in the U-12 100m and was a medal winner in 4th place. Claudia Darcy reached the final in the U-14 100m and the U-12 girls were place 4th (medal winners) at the nationals in the 4x100 relay.

The parish is back in the community games almost two years and in that time we have invited our own parish Olympian Pauline Curley to present medals to the children at the area athletics finals. We have also had Mucklagh resident and two time Olympian James Nolan to conduct a 10 week indoor athletics program with the children.

We are pleased to say that that we have secured another elite athlete to work with the U-10 and U-14 boys and girls in a one off training session. This elite athlete is chasing the Olympian A standard and currently holds the national record in her field. Please stay tuned for further information about who this elite athlete is, her field of expertise and when she is coming to coach the parish children at the GAA pitch in Ballinagar.
