PREPARATIONS are well underway for the FAILE VINTAGE Club upcoming tractor run, which was launched in Daingean recently. The event is set to benefit three very worthy charities and committee members are expecting a great turnout again this year.
It is a great family day out and is supporting great charities. This year the club have chosen the following local charities, Searching for the Missing.net, Offaly Respite Supports Project and Child Protection & Welfare Services for Co Offaly.
Josephine Pender, whose daughter Fiona disappeared in August 1996 and Regina Kerry whose aunt Imelda Keenan disappeared 17 years ago in Waterford, represented the Searching for the Missing organisation. It is a voluntary organisation set up to assist the families of the missing persons. There is a 24 hour help line 085 2092119 and all calls are in the strictest confidence.
Mary Carroll represented the Respite Supports Project. Care-giving is a demanding, difficult job and no one is equipped to doing it alone. For many families, respite care is a necessity not a luxury.
Helen Hanlon was there on behalf of Child Protection & Welfare Services for Co Offaly. It offers a wide range of services to assist individuals and their families.
The Run will be held on Sunday March 13. Registration will commence at 10am and the tractor run will commence at 11.30am. All vintage tractors, cars, lorries and bikes along with agricultural tractors are welcome. Tea and breakfast rolls will be available on the morning. The run will be officially opened by Josephine Pender, Helen Hanlon and Mary Carroll (representing the charities)
The route this year is to Walsh Island for a stop over where there will be refreshments and music will be performed by Rock on Paddy who will be travelling with the tractor run. From there it will return to Daingean via Geashill where refreshments will also be served. On the return to Daingean, there will be a Tug O War competition which will commence at 4pm. There will be three categories - Senior- 680kgs, Youths & Pub teams.
Entertainment will commence in Seerys Pub at 6pm with music by the ever talented Chris Loughrey. An auction will also be held on the night.
Sponsorship Cards are available and enquires can be made on the following no’s: 087 2272581, 087 2996642 or 087 6222044.
