Positive attitude wins over weight

A RHODE woman proved that a positive attitude is half the battle when it comes to weight loss.

A RHODE woman proved that a positive attitude is half the battle when it comes to weight loss.

Aisling Bermingham from Killowen in Rhode has lost over three stone in weight since deciding to make the most of winning a free gym membership with Aura in Tullamore in a local competition just over a year ago.

“Winning the free membership changed everything. My dad died the year before that and I had put on a lot of weight. Something had to be done about it. I never thought that I would get to where I am now but it has been a great experience,” Aisling said.

“I joined numerous gyms when I lived in Dublin before but nothing had worked. Aura is the only gym I joined where I never felt intimated. I was self conscious when I started and mortified that I had put on so much weight but the staff helped me to work through that,” she continued.

“When you’re sweating and out of shape you don’t feel very good about yourself but they kept me motivated and encouraged me to stick to a programme that was tailor made for me. It was like having a personal trainer for free and there was none of the posing that you often see in gyms,” Aisling added.

Aisling’s fitness programme combined a mix of cardio exercises, resistance and tummy work which helped her to lose weight and to tone up while also improving her core strength and posture.

“I exercise now seven days a week, every second week. I never believed people who used to say that exercise can make you feel better but it’s true, it does work and I am a completely different person now. I feel way better in myself and I’ve lost three stone too,” Aisling remarked.

“When I tell people that their faces light up because they can see that it is achievable. Exercising pays off. If you had told me all that this time last year I would not have believed you. When you’re overweight the end result seems like a very far away goal but I found with Aura that if you stick with it that it does work,” she added.

Aura Tullamore’s Operations Manager, Niamh Brady explained that Aisling’s positive attitude and determination to stick to her goals made her an obvious choice for this month’s ‘Member of the Month’ award.

“Aisling’s can-do attitude and dedication has impressed all of the fitness instructors at Aura Tullamore. She has made huge progress over the past year in improving her fitness and in losing weight. She is an inspiration to members of all ages and is a very deserving winner of this month’s award,” she said.
