TULLAMORE Tractor Run Committee made a special delivery to Daingean on Saturday night last when they presented Jimmy Connor, who was also celebrating his 50th birthday at a surprise party, with a restored tractor.
Two months prior to the Tullamore Show on August 14, 2011, the committee purchased a second hand Massey Ferguson 35X tractor in need of major refurbishment.
The committee members of Mick Waters (Chairman), Barbara Waters (secretary), Pascal Flynn, John Flynn, Brian Gibson, John Walsh, Donal O’Brien, Don Fox and PJ Lynam (PRO) spent evenings and weekends working on the tractor and bringing it back to pristine condition.
The tractor then went on display at the show where it was the main prize in a fund raising raffle. The committee members were overwhelmed by the response and wish to thank everyone who purchased a ticket. They are also grateful to the show committee for allowing a free space on the day.
All monies raised were donated to the Tullamore Hospital Oncology Unit and in the last four years the Tullamore Tractor Run Committee has raised over €100,000 for this worthy cause.
So Saturday when the committee arrived in Daingean to make the presentation, it proved to be an extra special occasion for Jimmy Connor.
His wife Sheila and children Rebecca, Daniel and Caroline had arranged a surprise 50th birthday party for him and the keen vintage tractor man, who has supported all the local tractor runs over the years, was thrilled to accept his Massey Ferguson 35X. Congratulations and well done Jimmy.
