Local schools to help children of Japanese earthquake

NATIONAL schools around Tullamore are playing their part for the children of the Japanese earthquake.

NATIONAL schools around Tullamore are playing their part for the children of the Japanese earthquake.

The events are being co-ordinated by Yukika McCann, a Japanese native and a language and learning support teacher in five schools around the town. She is hoping to raise as much money as possible for the children in affected areas in Japan and will bring the collected monies with her directly to the affected areas when she travels to Japan with her son in June.

Events kick off on Friday, April 1 at Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada with car washing on the school’s ground from 9am to 4pm and every in welcome. The same day St Philomena’s National School will be juggling in the Bridge Centre from 12pm to 2pm.

Some schools are having a jersey day, coffee morning and art classes to raise funds.

Ms McCann also welcomes any letter from children in Tullamore to children in Japan as part of donations.

If you would like to donate to this worthy cause you can make a direct debit to the Japan Quake Fund For Children, AIB Tullamore, sort code 93-22-56 account number 24849064 or send a cheque to Scoil Carthaigh Naofa, Rahan, Tullamore. Please include your name and address.
