SPECIAL Olympics Ireland Collection Day will take place throughout Ireland on Friday April 15.

The target is to raise €1 million on the day but to do this the group will need a minimum of 3,500 volunteers to take to the streets of Ireland and shake a bucket for them.

This is the group’s biggest annual fundraising event and is essential to ensuring the ongoing sustainability and growth of their programme of sport for people with an intellectual disability throughout Ireland.

There are currently 11,000 athletes involved in Special Olympics activities in Ireland. This year Ireland 126 athletes from all over the country will represent Ireland at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens in June.
