Leading ladies come together for Birr event

THE Women’s Groups of West and South Offaly came together on Thursday, April 26 in the County Arms Hotel in Birr.

THE Women’s Groups of West and South Offaly came together on Thursday, April 26 in the County Arms Hotel in Birr.

The event was organised by Michelle Shanahan, Community Education Facilitator of County Offaly VEC.

The aim of the event was to bring together the Women’s Groups from West and South Offaly to network and share information on activities, fundraising and attracting new members.

Nine Women’s Groups were represented on the night comprising Kilcormac Women’s Groups, Kinnitty Women’s Group, Ballinahown Women’s Group, Banagher Ladies Group, Belmont Women’s Groups, Coolderry Women’s Groups, Rath/Eglish Women’s Groups, Kilavilla Women’s Group and Shinrone Women’s Groups On the night, Michelle outlined the services available through the Adult Education Service of County Offaly VEC, including courses and programmes available to groups through the Community Education Service.

Women’s Groups are an excellent social outlet for women of any age, particularly those who are new to an area. The groups provide a varied range of social activities, speakers, facilitators and arts and crafts. Courses are provided in areas of oil painting, pottery, beauty care, health, fitness, quilting, gardening and cookery to name but a few.
