MEET Nigel – one of the stars of the silver screen featured on the slide show presented at the recent AGM of the Offaly SPCA.
Have a look first at the photo of him lying down. Note his scraggy hair. The lack of hope in his eyes and in the slump of his body.
That was Nigel as he was close on four months ago when he was released from temporary quarters in the Offaly Dog Pound / Shelter into foster care provided by the OSPCA. All he was looking for was the nearest wall that he could jump over.
What kind of experiences in his not-so-distant past had left this 12 months old Border Collie in such a state that he would try to hide even behind his own shadow to escape contact with a human being? On second thoughts, don’t ask. Better not to know.
Now look at the second picture, taken after he had been close on three months in the tender loving care provided by his foster family. There is life now in those lovely blue eyes and all the news about him is good. He is making great progress, showing himself to be very intelligent and with a placid disposition. He adores other dogs. And he even gets on well with the household cats!
So much for the past and the present. Now what about the future?
Maybe some reader could have a vital role to play in this because Nigel is looking for a very special home with a patient and experienced dog owner who can help him continue to move forward and learn to trust again. Ideally, this would be a home with other dogs and plenty of space because he loves the country life! He has been neutered and fully vaccinated.
If you feel you can offer him that second chance in life, you are invited to contact the OSPCA on 086-3785584. A home check will apply.
