'We have no hotel in Roscrea' - reps request update on closed town centre hotel

Elected representatives asked for an update on the closed hotel in Roscrea
Roscrea's Castle Street hotel, which closed 12 years ago, was the subject of a feasibility study costing €150k to examine if the business could return to hospitality and tourism, or could be used for another purpose should it be rejuvenated and the doors reopened.
Last year Tipperary County Council invited submissions from the public via an online portal and consultation session in the heritage town to meet the public and hear their ideas of what the potential future of the former hotel building could be.
At Tipperary County Council’s plenary meeting on Monday Roscrea based Independent councillor and member of the Lowry Team, Shane Lee, requested up to date information of the premises.
“Have we any further information from the Department, or where are we at in relation to the information that was gathered for the feasibility report, because we’re getting it all the time from people asking what is the current position with that hotel.
“Obviously you know that we don’t have a hotel in Roscrea and this is a very sensitive issue. If we could get a response on where exactly we are at with the issue,” Cllr. Lee said.
Director of Services for Planning and Development, Brian Beck, said the results of the feasibility study will soon be published and made public.
“The Department has indicated it is up to whoever is interested to bring it forward - we are not in a position to purchase that building and it is not our intention to do so.
“But there are funding streams available and at the moment the feasibility report is a very substantial resource for anyone who is interested in looking at that property.
“It has gone through a huge amount of information which is publically available for anyone interested in activating that site,” Mr Beck said.
