Dawn chorus in town park in Tullamore hears birdsong from a wide variety of species
Some hardy souls had an early rise last weekend as they took part in a dawn chorus in Tullamore town park led by Richard Jack and Ricky Whelan, Offaly Biodiversity Officer.
The intrepid group made their way from the town park to Tullamore Wetlands, taking in the sights and sounds along the route.
A large variety of species greeted them, with blackbirds dominating the early chorus.
As the light increased, more voices joined in, building into a rich and varied soundscape.
At the wetlands participants heard Sedge Warbler and Reed Bunting, two highlights before retracing their footsteps to pick up the late risers .
Thanks to Richard and Ricky and also to the The Heritage Council for supporting this event and the Offaly Naturalists' Field Club.
