REVEALED: The Offaly community centres to benefit from €705,040 in grant aid

Birr Leisure Centre is to benefit to the tune of €95,000

FUNDING of €705,040 for the upgrade and development of community centres across Offaly will benefit seven different towns and villages.

Grant aid is to be provided to centres in Killeigh, Birr, Tullamore, Moneygall, Shinrone, Kilcormac and Rhode with Killeigh the big winner receiving €300,000 for the development of a new state of the art community centre.,

The announcement under the new Community Centre Investment Fund represents the largest ever capital investment in upgrading Community Centres and will see grants of between €25,000 to €300,000 provided to successful projects.

The funding will be used to upgrade, renovate and refurbish Community Centres, Parish Halls, Scouts Clubs, Youth Hubs, Family Resources Centres and Sports Complexes across the country.

Welcoming the news local TD Barry Cowen said: “The local community centre is at the heart of our towns, villages and parishes.

"I’m delighted to see this ground-breaking investment in our local community centres.”

The successful Offaly applicants are

Killeigh Community Centre Development Association - €300,000

Birr Development Company (Birr Leisure Centre) - €95,000

Midlands Regional Youth Service - €100,000

Moneygall Community Hall - €25,000

Shinrone Development DAC - €32,283.88

Kilcormac Development Association - €98,418.62

Rhode Parish Enterprise Association - €54,339.55
