Offaly country music star to launch new single

ALEX ROE

Country star, Alex Roe from Clara

WITH the festive season well and truly on the horizon now, one of Irish country's most popular young performers is about to return to the airwaves.

Offaly's  Alex Roe  releases his first new music in almost twelve months on  Friday, December 22nd  with the emotional ballad,  “Once Upon a Time”. An original from the Stephen Hamilton songbook,  “Once Upon a Time”  sees Roe round out another busy year with a song that has everything needed to add to the Clara man's ever-growing fanbase.

Although it's been a quiet year for Roe on the release front, there's been a lot happening behind the scenes and in the studio as he puts the finishing touches to his long-awaited and highly anticipated new album. With work on that collection being foremost in his mind throughout the course of the year, Roe admits he would have been content to leave his next single until early in 2023, as originally planned.

However, an encounter  with songwriter Stephen Hamilton deep in the  Scottish highlands soon changed all that...

"Stephen and I were over in Scotland as part of a Hot Country TV tour there recently, so naturally enough we got talking in between shows and in our downtime, and Stephen said he had some songs that he'd like me to have a listen to. I was obviously aware of Stephen's talent as a writer, especially from his work with Molly O' Connell earlier this year. I think Molly cut three of his songs, and they were all great. So I knew whatever he was going to send my way was going to be of a really high standard. And sure enough, when I listened to everything he sent me, I liked them all."

Alex continued,  "And a few of them in particular, I really liked. But there was something about 'Once Upon A Time' that made me love it from the very first listen. I'm not kidding, I just kept putting it on repeat again and again. So when I couldn't get it out of my head, I said to myself, 'Ya know what? I need to get in the studio and record this. And I need to do it right now'. So in I went, and here we are!"

While 2022 may have been relatively quiet on the release front, it's been anything but that in every other regard. The latest issue of  RSVP Country  hails Roe as one of their  'new generation', he has performed as a special guest of Margo, entertained thousands of fans at the National Ploughing Championships and the famous Tullamore Show, and thousands more as he's continued his impressive emergence as a radio presenter where he's a regular guest-host on Midlands 103.

And now, as 2022 draws to a close with new music to his name again, Roe's sights are set firmly on a new year that has more new music right at the heart of everything.

"I'm honestly so excited about some of the plans I have in the works for 2023. And finally being able to get my new album into peoples' hands is way up there on that list."
