First Active Flag raised at Offaly school

ACTIVVE

Killeigh NS raised its first ever Active Flag on Friday

Scoil Shinchill, Killeigh was recently awarded its first Active Flag.

The Active Flag is a Department of Education and Skills initiative that recognises schools that “strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community".

A huge amount of work has been undertaken in the last two years to achieve this Active Flag.

On Friday last, the entire school community came together in a ceremony to raise the flag.

School Principal, Mr White paid tribute to everyone involved in this work and made a special mention of Ms Moriarty and her Active School committee. Over the last two years, each class took part in a number of activities that promote physical activity,  including Run Around Ireland, 10 at 10, Active School Week and Walking buddies.

A number of children were also Playground buddies that encouraged children to get active during break.

Chairman of the BOM, Fr John added his own congratulations before the committee joined to raise the flag together.

Thanks to everyone who has helped our school achieve this wonderful milestone.
