Two year driving disqualification for Offaly student at Tullamore District Court

A RHODE woman was disqualified from holding a driving licence for two years during the November 5 sitting of the local District Court.

Esther Bridget Harney, 21 Clonin Estate, Clonin, Rhode, was stopped by the Gardai on April 8, 2025 in Clonin Estate, Clonin, Rhode. She pleaded guilty to not having insurance or a driving licence.

Sergeant Brendan Kearns said she was stopped at 3pm and the vehicle was seized. Ms Harney had one previous conviction for intoxicated driving.

Judge Andrew Cody pointed out that the defendant was disqualified at the time. “What part of being disqualified for a year did she not understand?”

“Her mother suffers from MS,” commented the defending solicitor Patrick Martin. “She drove only 500 metres down the road. She is a college student and is also working as a care assistant.”

The Judge fined €1,000 and disqualified as stated.
