BUILDING work on 10 new social housing units in Daingean is scheduled to begin next week.

A commencement notice has been issued in relation to Offaly County Council's development of the houses at Beechwood Court, Daingean.

The scheme follows on from nine social housing dwellings at Beechwood Drive, Circular Road, Daingean.

All 10 new houses will be single storey. There will be nine two-bed houses in two terrace blocks and one four-bed home.

When complete, the houses will be allocated to applicants on the council housing waiting list but the local authority has indicated that Beechwood Court's two-bed homes will serve the needs of older people in the area.

The four-bed house will “provide accommodation for a family with specific medical needs” a council meeting heard earlier this year. Construction is due to begin on Wednesday, May 18.
