Calendar Girls Musical and credit unions raise funds for Offaly Hospice

Over €17,000 donated towards provision of Midlands Hospice in Tullamore

A TOTAL of €17,339.12 was raised for Offaly Hospice towards the Tullamore-based Midlands Hospice project by the cast and organisers of Calendar Girls the Musical and the Midlands Credit Union (CU) group

The Midlands Credit Union Group comprises St Brigid's Credit Union, Clara, North Midlands CU Mullingar, People First CU Portlaoise, ACCU Athlone, Mountmellick CU and Mountrath CU.

The Midlands Regional Hospice which will serve the communities of Offaly, Longford, Westmeath and Laois.

The fundraising included an 8-week 'Sunflower Steps' Fitness Challenge, the commissioning of a limited edition print by local artist Emma Campbell, the selling of a charity calendar, a waxing and shaving fundraiser in The Old Warehouse Tullamore, raffles, and much more.

This all culminated in the staging of a production Calendar Girls the Musical at the Esker Arts Centre, Tullamore, from May 1-5.

The musical was a sell-out success, and the themes of the show encapsulated the motivations of everyone involved to raise money for such a vital service in the local community.

Many local businesses showed their support through sponsorship of the musical production.

Professor Humphrey O’Connor of Offaly Hospice expressed his extreme gratitude at the presentation of the cheque at Esker Arts Centre earlier this month.
