Offaly based Green party Senator and Minister Pippa Hackett

LOCAL Green party representative Cllr Mark Hackett welcomed Minister Eamon Ryan to Offaly on Friday last and stressed that ‘Greens are delivering for Offaly’.

Speaking following the Minister’s address to Offaly County Council elected members, the Green Party councillor said “You are here to launch new bus routes and those are very welcome. But I want to widen the conversation - In Offaly we have always been the power house of the country and will continue this role as we develop and implement green energy technologies, from bog restoration projects to retrofit training in Mount Lucas and Rhode Green Energy Park we are seeing sustainable job development and we are meeting our obligations under climate legislation. ”

“All sectors need to play their part in climate action.  There are many Green policies supporting this; a selection benefiting Offaly include the largest ever Forestry Programme which is farmer focused, the doubling of organic farms in the county and the massive boost to tourism which is on the way thanks to EU Just Transition funding.”

“The Green revolution is in process, those who are trying to hold it back, including some who sit in this chamber, are slowing necessary progress. I see the huge benefit of Greens In Government in this county, I thank you for your work and I look forward to there being more Green party councillors following the next local elections so that we can fully support these policies on the ground.”
