Top French award for Roscrea academic

Roscrea native and resident of Kilcock Co. Kildare, Eamon Maher has just been awarded the top academic accolade of the French Government
A wonderful celebration took place recently at the French Ambassador's Residence in Dublin where Dr Eamon Maher from Roscrea received a top honour from the French government.
The reason for this auspicious occasion was the elevation of Dr. Eamon Maher, Lecturer in the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Technological University Dublin, to the rank of Commandeur dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Ambassador to Ireland, Céline Place.
The Ordre des Palmes Académiques is one of the oldest civil honours bestowed by the French Republic, dating back to 1808, and the rank of Commandeur is the highest level of this academic accolade.
In her speech, Ambassador Place highlighted Eamon's outstanding contribution to academia and in particular, his contribution to Franco-Irish relations, his distinguished scholarship through publications and research supervision, and his remarkable commitment to promoting French language and culture in Ireland.
The Ambassador warmly noted that she could think of no more deserving recipient of this incredible award, than Eamon.
The very pleasant ceremony took place in the beautiful surroundings of the Ambassador’s residence in warm evening sunshine and was attended by a number of Eamon’s colleagues from TU Dublin, past and present, some of Eamon's former teaching colleagues from Clongowes Wood College, his sons and daughter, sister, and many friends, neighbours and relations.
