TEAM NEWS: Offaly team named for championship opener against Meath

Offaly football manager John Maughan has shown his hand by naming his team for the Leinster Senior Football Championship opener against Meath on Sunday, May 12.

Offaly come into the game on the back of a topsyturvy league campaign which saw them remain competitive in each fixture but ultimately fighting and needing a win on the last day to stay up in Division 3.

Maughan has opted for Paddy Dunican in goal with Declan Hogan, Eoin Rigney and David Dempsey in the fullback line. Cian Donohoe, Johnny Moloney and captain Niall Darby fill the halfback positions with Eoin Carroll and Peter Cunningham forming the midfield partnership.

Kilmacud recruit Shane Horan retains the position he held for much of the league at wing-forward and he is joined by Anton Sullivan and Cathal Mangan.

Niall McNamee is the standout name in the full-forward line but league top scorer Bernard Allen and Ruairi McNamee will be important in the corners as Offaly bid to halt Meath in Navan.

The game throws in at 3pm on Sunday, May 12.
