Offaly GAA club planning 8k road race

Carrig & Riverstown GAA club is holding its annual 8k road race/walk on Sunday, May 5 at 11.30am.

Over the past few years, this event has been a great success and the route has attracted very favourable comments from participants.

The 8k distance is proving to be popular for runners who have competed over the 5k distance during the past months and are planning to run 10k over the summer.

Top prizes of €100 are on offer for the first male and female runners home. This is a pleasant, level course in a country setting by Fadden bog all run on tarred roads.

The 8k is a loop with the start at on Fadden Lane, 100m from club grounds, and returns to the clubhouse via the N52 for the last kilometre, with the finish on the main pitch.

Registration is at 10.00am in the clubhouse situated on the N52 between Birr and Borrisokane. The course is well signed and stewarded, with each kilometre marked, and plenty of water stations along the way.

The day attracts serious runners, not so serious runners and lots of families. Refreshments are available to all after the race to get energy levels back. All are welcome.
