Odds slashed on Shane Lowry tasting success at Pebble Beach this week
In-form Shane Lowry has been backed for more success on the course as he prepares to take on the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California this week, according to Boylesports.
The Offaly man got his season off to a flying start with a victory in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in January and has made the cut in four previous visits to this week’s coastal course, which will host the 119th US Open in June.
He has been backed into 35/1 from 40/1 to taste victory by the sea.
Dustin Johnson, who registered a European Tour victory in Saudi Arabia last week, is the 5/1 favourite ahead of 9/1 shot Jason Day, with Europe’s main hope of a victory stateside this week coming in the shape of Ryder Cup star Tommy Fleetwood. The Southport man is chalked up at 22/1 alongside three-time major champion Jordan Spieth.
BoyleSports will be paying 7 places for each-way backers in the tournament, making Dustin Johnson and Jason Day very popular bets, having both registered top 5 finishes in three of the last four years at Pebble Beach.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Dustin Johnson and Jason Day are running away at the head of the market this week, but not only is Shane Lowry in form but we know he has previous form on links courses. The Irish are backing him in numbers this week to become the first dual winner this year so we’ve had to trim his odds before tee-off as a result.”
