The tournament had already been reduced from 72 to 54 holes due to persistent thunderstorms over the weekend.
The Offaly golfer was in flying form on Sunday, twice hitting the flag on his way to being three under through eight holes and six under for the tournament leaving him just four behind leader Sergio Garcia.
Lee Westwood is in second place on seven under par.
Weather permitting, the tournament will end on Monday morning.
