Shane Lowry in contention at Andalucia Valderrama Masters
Shane Lowry is positioned just outside the Top 10 after a weather-affected opening round at the Andalucia Valderrama Masters in Spain.
Lowry was one of the golfers lucky enough to make it all the way through his first round before rain halted play for the evening on Thursday.
The Offaly man was made to scramble for his round of 69 after picking up three bogeys in difficult conditions. He started brightly with two birdies inside the first hole before bogey on 6.
He made the turn at two under par after picking another birdie on 8 but was right up with the leaders soon after when sinking two consecutive birdies on the 12th and 13th holes.
He looked poised to end the day well inside the top five with leader Ashley Chesters on five under par, but a pair of bogeys on the way home saw him slip back to 11th spot.
Tournament host Sergio Garcia is also in contention after posting a three under par round of 68. Play will resume on Friday.
