Only one golfer lies in front of Irish pair Shane Lowry and Padraig Harrington in the betting for this week’s Andalucia Valderrama Masters.
The news comes after both received the backing of punters ahead of Thursday’s tee-off in Spain, according to Boylesports.
Home hope Sergio Garcia goes into the competition as favourite in his first appearance since his role on Europe’s successful Ryder Cup in Paris.
Garica heads the betting at 4/1 having won at the famous Andalucian venue last year and finishing third the year before.
However, Offaly’s Shane Lowry has been the subject of significant home support with a recent 6th place finish at the Portugal Masters and poses as Garcia’s main threat in the betting at 11/1.
Golf punters also believe a win for Padraig Harrington may not be far off either, as the Dubliner is now third favourite, just behind his compatriot, having been backed into 18/1 from 20/1.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Shane Lowry and Padraig Harrington have posted a handful of top 10 finishes between them recently and punters are showing a bit of confidence that an Irish win on tour is just round the corner."
"We’ve cut both their odds this week thanks to a bit of strong local support so we’ll see if home favourite Sergio Garcia can justify his favourite tag.”
The current betting for the Andalucia Valderrama Masters:
4/1 Sergio Garcia
11/1 Shane Lowry
18/1 Padraig Harrington
20/1 Soren Kjeldsen
20/1 Lee Westwood
22/1 Andrew Johnston
25/1 Joost Luiten
25/1 Marcus Kinhult
