National Motocross Championship to rev up in Offaly

The weekend of July 7/8 will see the National Motocross Championship roll into Offaly and Westmeath as Derryarkin Motocross Club play host to Round 4 of the competition.

There will be youth racing taking place on Saturday, July 7 with riders from the age of 6 up to 17 years of age competing at the Midlands circuit. The circuit actually begins in Offaly on a site between Rhode and Rochfortbridge and finishes up in Westmeath.

The young competitors will be riding machines from automatic 50cc up to 250 four stroke. In support of the youth days racing we will be running a class for the Twin Shock and Evo old school bikes with some of these bikes dating back to the 80s.

The adults racing takes centre stage on Sunday, July 8 with Pro Mx1/Mx2 Semi Expert Mx1/Mx2 Clubman Mx1/Mx2 and 035 / Vets competitng in varying classes.

Some of the best riders in the country will be taking part in this national event. This is Round 4 of the National 6 round championship which has seen riders competing at tracks all over the country. The motocross track at Derryarkin is a purpose built facility on land donated to the club by Bord na Mona.

The very popular amenity area is 1.8 kilometres long and varies from 6 to 10 m wide with a number of challenging spectatlar jumps varying from 20 to 80 ft in length with a number of double jumps and ski jumps.

With a number of northern riders making the trip and some of the best southern riders to fend them off, it's sure to be a rip-roaring and entertaining weekend.
