Dubs late show sinks Offaly minor footballers

Two goals late in the game were enough to seal a crucial win for Dublin as they triumphed over Offaly in the Leinster Minor Football Championship in Tullamore.

Offaly started the brighter with early points for the nifty Aaron Kellaghan, Jack Bryant and Ed Cullen.

Dublin hit back with a brace but a Sean Courtney point for Offaly on 18 minutes put the home side two in front again, 0-4 to 0-2.

Dublin took control of the game for a spell after that and points from the likes of Malachy Codd and Conor Murray had the capital in a 0-6 to 0-4 lead at half time.

Aaron Kellaghan pointed twice in the early stages of the second half but Dublin kept the scoreboard ticking and led 0-8 to 0-6 at the 50 minute mark.

A pearler from Bracknagh's Mikey Cunningham kickstarted Offaly again and the game was in the balance when Sean Courtney hit the equaliser with less than eight minutes remaining.

Dublin were not to be denied however and back to back goals in a two minute burst, including a Luke Swan strike had them in a commaning lead late on.

Aaron Kellaghan kept the scoring thread going for Offaly but two late points from Dublin put the gloss on a flattering 2-11 to 0-10 final scoreline for the boys in blue.
